In 2017, student Mukund Hari Nathany brought the TED-Ed Club to Jamnabai Narsee School. Aided by then Principal Ms. Zeenat Bhojaboy and Club Advisor Ms. Brinda Bose Sengupta, the 100% free of cost programme comprised 50 students from Std. 4-12, with each cycle spanning over the course of a year.
Since its conception, the club has grown in both size and credibility, now accommodating 80 members and more leadership positions. Members are trained using the official TED-Ed curriculum which covers a wide range of topics such as intimacy with the audience, modulation and presentation, confidence, among others. This intensive training enables them to write, record and present an original TED-style talk at the end of the cycle. This talk is then presented live at the eagerly awaited Showcase Day and uploaded on the official TED-Ed Student Talks Youtube account. The ability to choose your own topic along with the club's superb hands-on training makes membership all the more attractive.
Lessons worth sharingTED-Ed Clubs JNS Motto
The Club's capable and passionate leadership ensured that even during the pandemic, TED-Ed Clubs JNS successfully completed a cycle through numerous video calls, mails and phone recordings.
Today, the club is headed by Ms. Brinda Bose Sengupta, Ms. Mobina Quadir and Mr. Jaishankar Ojha who supervise the responsibilities of 4 zealous and adept student leaders, 4 presidents and 2 admin heads.
TED-Ed Clubs JNS stays true to its motto of 'Lessons worth sharing' and provides students with an environment of like-minded students that cultivates ideas and encourages originality, forming capable and enthusiastic leaders. Membership to the club is acquired through a series of intensive and detailed interviews which take place once a year at the beginning of the cycle.
TEDxyouth@JNS is organized independently by students of Jamnabai Narsee School under a free license granted by TED. The event abides by the TEDx format and guidelines, bringing its spirit to our community. Organized once a year, the event gives local industry specialists, entrepreneurs and educators the opportunity to deliver TED talks and share 'Ideas Worth Spreading'.
Jamnabai Narsee School held its first TEDx event in 2018 under the leadership of former student Mukund Hari Nathany who brought the prestigious event to our school and held the position of Primary Organizer for 2 consecutive years. Since then the position has been held by students Rahael Breganza and Mehar Karnani in 2020 and 2021 respectively who lead the team along with Secondary Organizer Ms Brinda Bose Sengupta, IT person in charge Ms Minu Joshi, Art person in charge Ms Geetan Bharadwaj, along with the highly experienced student Organizing Committee. The Organizing Committee is divided into 5 teams- Finance, Communication, Media and Press Relations (CMPR), Speaker Curation and Tech, headed by one student leader each. These teams work harmoniously to put together an exclusive one-day event in our school.
The event was also held online for two years owing to the pandemic, but the restrictions did not hinder the team's efforts as they assisted speakers in recording their talks in isolation and managed to render original digital backgrounds which made the audience feel as though they were watching the event in person.
